Washington State Sandy Koufax Baseball Association

History

Sandy Koufax Select baseball began in the Pacific Northwest in 1985.  There were a total of 4 teams.  The teams played each other several times during that first season.  The state championship tournament included all 4 teams and the winner of that tournament went on to participate in the Sandy Koufax regional tournament in California.  The following season, Washington State Sandy Koufax had a total of 7 teams.  Select baseball was on its way.

The Sandy Koufax league has grown at a rate of approximately 10% per year since that first season.  In the 2004 season, Sandy Koufax has a total of 64 teams.  In the beginning years, both 13 year old teams and 14 year old teams competed together.  As the league grew, it was found necessary to separate the 2 age groups, forming the 13-year-old division and 14 year old division to compete individually.  The 2004 season has 31 teams in the 13-year-old division and 33 teams in the 14-year-old division. The 14-year-old division has 2 separate divisions……….Olympic and Cascade.  The 2 separate divisions compete within their division, and the top 8 teams in each division has their own state tournament at the end of the season.  The Champion’s of the State Tournaments has the opportunity to go onto the Sandy Koufax Regionals.

The competition in Sandy Koufax baseball is incredible.  Great coaching as well as management of teams.  Most teams play in several tournaments during the course of the season. Going on to post season play, in a World Series or National Tournament is, for the most part, the main objective for each team.  The commitment made from the coaches, parents and players to the team they are involved with is much more than simply playing the game of baseball.  Loyalty, work ethics, sportsmanship, and many other facets of life make up a Washington State Sandy Koufax Baseball Association team.
